Grass Fed Beef

Of course we all know that cows graze and eat grass and hay, right?  That's what we learned from our earliest picture books, but the modern factory farm has moved a long ways away from those practices.   While it's true that these operations provide a year-round supply of food at a reasonable price, a host of less-favorable conditions have resulted:

• Animal stress and abuse
• Air, land, and water pollution
• The unnecessary use of hormones, antibiotics, and other drugs
• The loss of small family farms
• Food with little nutritional value

Grass-fed beef is obvioulsy not only a happier animal, but the meat tastes better - and is MUCH better for you. For example, compared with feedlot meat, meat from grass-fed beef has less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. It also has more vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C, omega-3 fatty acids and “conjugated linoleic acid”.

It's true, this type of animal husbandry requires healthy soil and careful pasture management, a lot more knowledge, work, and skill - but we think it's worth it.
